During my summer internship at Havas in 2018, I designed and coded a Facebook filter using Facebook’s AR Studio— at the time, it was released in Beta.
The idea was to create a fun Facebook filter for the Havas Pride Week 2018 event. This year’s theme was icons. The icon I based my filter on was Harvey Milk, California’s first openly gay elected official. Because of his last name, I was able to create a playful filter that would automatically get people to remember him.
As shown in the video, when I open my mouth, a milk mustache appears on my face and a quote from Harvey Milk, “Hope will never be silent” is shown at the bottom of the screen. Then, if I raise my eyebrows, a whole lot of milk pours down on me.
After creating the filter, Facebook provides a link to the filter that can be shared with others. I made a QR code for that link that was then placed on posters around the room at the Havas Pride party so that everyone could try the Facebook filter on their phones.
